“I acted like Cary Grant for so long, I became him.”
Who would you be without your worry and anxiety?
How would you be different?
Would you be more confident?
What would that feel like?
Would you be happier in general?
Less stressed, more relaxed?
One of the best things you can do is start pretending you are that person now.
Here’s the video that goes along with this post:
Some people say that ‘Fake it ‘til you Make it’ is wrong. That it’s being a phony. But, what they might not understand is that when you intentionally ‘fake it’ this way, you’re not doing this to impress others. You’re doing it to impress upon your subconscious mind a new way you want to be.
As Power Poses Expert Amy Cuddy says, “Fake it until you become it.”
“Our bodies can change our minds. Our nonverbals govern how we think about ourselves.”
So, the bear pose or superhero pose or my favorite, the Rocky pose, are all good to do for two minutes in the bathroom before an interview or at home if you’re feeling worried, among other things. And to start really reprogramming your mind start acting as if you are already that person you want to become all the time.
I really can’t stress enough how powerful this is. Because nothing at all comes to us without us feeling it first. This goes for everything. From the things we aspire to have and do, to the person we aspire to be.
As you’re sitting there right now, imagine it’s a year from now and you’ve made incredible progress on your worry and anxiety. How do you feel?
You’re not going to look much different on the outside. But, what’s it like on the inside?
Imagine going through your day with this new confidence. After spending a few minutes visualizing this, when you get up and continue with your day, imagine you are her now. Every once and a while throughout the day, remind yourself of this.
